About the Brazilica Festivals, Liverpool

The Brazilica Festival was started in 2008 to celebrate Liverpool winning the European  Capital of Culture. This was the largest celebration of Brazilian Culture in the UK and drumming bands and dancers from across the UK and abroad paraded annually through Liverpool Centre. It was started by Roger and Maeve Morris who also started one of the first drumming bands in the UK and certainly the first one in Liverpool and surrounding areas in 1995, Liverpool Samba School. The Brazilica Carnival wasn't held in 2020 because the pandemic and floundered post pandemic and stopped entirely in 2023 when the funding necessary to keep the carnival alive instead went to the Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Liverpool that year.  Wirral Drummers' were privileged and proud to have played the Carnival every year since it's inception to it's final year, at first under the previous name 'Oxiris'.
